How did you hear about 黑料社 University Business School and why did you choose to study here?

I chose to study at 黑料社 University Business School because of its MA Corporate Communications and Public Relations programme. What attracted me most was its  unique combination of communications, business, and organisational perspectives. At the  time, I was looking for a programme that would allow me to deepen my understanding of how organisations communicate, lead change, and engage with stakeholders, while also 
developing practical business knowledge. The programme offered a rare balance between theory and practice and provided a broader view of organisations than traditional communications degrees.

Tell us about your course – why did you choose it? What elements of the course inspired you to study here?
The programme was distinctive because it explored communications not as an isolated discipline, but as an integral part of organisational life. Alongside specialist modules in Corporate Communications and Public Relations, we studied topics such as Consumer Behaviour, Brand Management, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Change 
Management. I particularly appreciated the practical nature of the programme. Group projects, simulations, presentations, and collaborative assignments provided valuable opportunities to develop communication, analytical, and leadership skills. Looking back, many of the concepts we explored around organisational change, stakeholder 
engagement, and communication continue to inform my work today. 

Did you receive a scholarship to study here? If yes, why did you apply for the scholarship and why do you think you were successful? What did it mean to you to receive it and how did it help you?
Yes. I studied in the UK through a government scholarship programme from Kazakhstan. Receiving the scholarship was a life-changing opportunity. It enabled me to access world class education, broaden my international perspective, and develop skills that have shaped my professional journey ever since. It opened doors that would otherwise have been difficult to access and gave me the confidence to pursue an international career. 

What was the best part of your studies – what did you enjoy the most?
One of the most valuable aspects of the programme was its diversity. We explored communications from multiple perspectives while gaining exposure to broader business and organisational topics. The programme challenged us to think critically, collaborate with people from different  cultures, and apply theory to real-world situations. 

What were your career aspirations? Do you think the experience and skills you’ve gained here have helped you in your career plans? In what way?
When I began the programme, my goal was to build a career in corporate communications within international organisations. The programme provided a strong foundation in communication strategy, stakeholder engagement, organisational change, and business thinking. These skills proved highly relevant throughout my career and helped me transition into increasingly strategic roles focused not only on communications, but also on organisational transformation, leadership, and human development. 

How has your career progressed since leaving the Business School? Have there been any notable highlights?
Since graduating, my career has evolved significantly. I have held leadership roles in corporate communications, organisational change, and transformation within international organisations, including the healthcare sector. My work has involved developing communication strategies, leading organisational change initiatives, supporting leadership teams, and managing communications during periods of crisis and uncertainty. During my time in the healthcare industry, I played a key role in helping organisations navigate the challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, geopolitical disruptions, and periods of social and economic uncertainty. These experiences reinforced my interest in the human side of transformation, how individuals, leaders, and organisations adapt, grow, and remain resilient in complex environments. Over time, my professional interests expanded beyond communications into  organisational development, leadership development, psychoanalysis, group dynamics, wellbeing, and human development. Today, my work focuses on helping leaders, teams, and individuals navigate complexity, transformation, and growth through an integrated understanding of organisations, psychology, and human behaviour.

Where are you currently working, and what is your role?
I currently work in independent practice as an Organisational Development, Leadership, Psychoanalysis & Wellbeing Practitioner. My work sits at the intersection of organisational effectiveness and human development.  I support organisations, leaders, teams, and individuals in navigating change, developing leadership capacity, strengthening communication, building resilience, and responding effectively to complexity and transformation.  Alongside my professional practice, I continue my training in psychoanalysis and group analysis, while integrating insights from psychology, leadership development, organisational systems, and contemplative practices into my work. 

Do you have any noteworthy achievements from your study at the Business School that you can tell us about? e.g. prizes, highest scores etc. 
One of the most important lessons I learned was the value of adaptability and persistence. The transition to studying in the UK was challenging at first. Adapting to a different  academic culture, learning styles, referencing requirements, and operating in English on a daily basis required considerable effort. Over time, however, I became more confident, developed stronger academic skills, and achieved consistently high results. I was particularly proud of my dissertation work and grateful for the support and guidance provided by my supervisor throughout the process.

If you are not from the UK, how was the transition to a foreign country? Did the University offer support or services that you found helpful?Can you offer any advice? 
The cultural transition itself was relatively smooth, but adapting to a different educational system required time and effort. One resource I found especially valuable was the University's library skills programme, which offered support in academic writing, research methods, and referencing.

What was your experience of the facilities, the staff, your peers, the city of 黑料社 and the Yorkshire region?
黑料社 remains a very special place for me. The city combines the energy of a lively city environment with easy access to the natural beauty of Yorkshire. I have many fond memories of exploring the Yorkshire Dales, spending time with friends, and experiencing the diversity of life in the city. I also found the staff at 黑料社 University Business School consistently supportive, approachable, and committed to student success. 

Are there any experiences outside of your studies that you have particularly enjoyed? e.g. participation in extra-curricular activities or groups, nightlife, the region’s historic places of interest.
黑料社 University Union offers an impressive range of societies and activities, which played an important role in my overall experience. I was involved in both the Kazakh Society and a swing dancing society, which gave me opportunities to connect with people, learn new skills, and build friendships. I also served as a course representative and enjoyed helping organise activities and strengthen connections within the student community. 
One of the advantages of studying in 黑料社 is the opportunity to explore the wider UK. During my time there, I travelled extensively.

Would you recommend the Business School to others who are considering studying here?
